IT IS YOUR DAY, DO WHAT YOU WANT.

Keep in mind, it is completely up to you on whether or not you want to do a first look, but here are some of my favorite reasons for having a first look.


- more intimate time with you and your partner


Your wedding day is a day full of emotions, having a first look will give you and your partner a private moment to be with each other. This is a great opportunity for tears, hugs, kisses, and to just be vulnerable without all of your family and friends watching. Yes, your photographer/videographer will be there, but this will allow for you and your partner to have a more genuine reaction to seeing each other for the first time. If you are anxious like me, this could be a great thing to add to your wedding day. 

- intimate moments with your people


Yes your day is about you and your lover but you can't forget about all of your favorite people. First looks can be with anyone you want to do one with. I've had couples do first looks with fathers, mothers, bridesmaids, groomsmen, siblings, grandparents, and so many more.One I would love to see is with the couples fur baby, so if you want to make it happen let's do it!! First looks with parents and family have been some of the most emotional, in a good way hehe.

- you will be able to remember your ceremony better (hopefully hehe)


I have had a few couples who were so nervous and preferred to see their lover before so they could focus on the ceremony, vows, rings, and just not tripping down the aisle. By planning on having private time to see each other before will make you less anxious so you will hopefully be able to be in the moment!

- get more photos done before the ceremony


If you have already seen each other you can plan on taking more portraits before the ceremony. Bridal party and family photos can be taken before the ceremony to give you and your lover more time during golden hour (or after the ceremony) for portraits of the two of you. Plus, you won’t miss as much of your reception!


Again, choosing to have a first look is a personal decision. Do not let anyone tell you that you should or shouldn’t do a first look. The idea that you have to HAVE to have a “traditional” wedding is bs. It is your day!! Do whatever you want, do whatever makes you and your partner happy. Happy wedding planning!!
